with the announcement of Apple’s most cutting-edge piece of hardware, designers and developers are gearing up to make sure their apps are ready for the iPhone X. Not every new piece of Apple hardware requires preparing for, but this one does.

Let’s take a look at a few of the unique specs and features :

  • 1. 3X IMAGE SCALE FACTOR
  • NEW DISPLAY DIMENSIONS: MORE SCREEN SPACE, MORE CONTENT
  • CONSIDER ASPECT RATIO WHEN CREATING BACKGROUND IMAGES
  • DON’T POSITION ELEMENTS IN DISPLAY’S EDGE CORNERS
  • USE SAFE AREA LAYOUT TO DISPLAY CONTENT
  • DON’T WORRY ABOUT NATIVE COMPONENTS
  • AVOID PLACING INTERACTIVE ELEMENTS NEAR THE HOME INDICATOR
  • DON’T DRAW SPECIAL ATTENTION TO HOME INDICATOR
  • USE AUTO-HIDE FOR FULL-SCREEN EXPERIENCES
  • DON’T HIDE THE STATUS BAR

For the sake of preserving a good look of the system, Apple doubled the iPhone X status bar height from 22pt to 44pt.

1. Realign the interface elements

Here are some things you want to look for when choosing an organization to plant the tree. You want to find a group that:
  • Actually plants the trees (and doesn’t sub it out to someone else)
  • Keeps records of where the trees are planted
  • Returns to maintain and make sure the trees are growing healthy
  • Takes photos of the actual trees planted
  • Provides coordinates for where you can find and visit the trees

In terms of adapting app design for iPhone X, such resolution changes mean that you should rearrange the layout of interface elements if you want to preserve a pixel-perfect design of your app on the iPhone X. In other case, the elements may be placed too close to the notch that’ll make the design look inappropriate.

If exclude all these standard bars on iOS that take some extra place on the iPhone X screen, we get an impressive 641pt of ‘pure’ height where you can place the content of your app. Why is it a big deal? Because the iPhone 8 has about 570pt of useful space for comparison.

2. Don’t hide the iPhone X notch

  1. You order a memorial tree gift
  2. They will send a certificate and/or card to you (or the recipient, your choice)
  3. The tree gets planted in partnership with the Forest Service experts in the area most needed
  4. Trees for a Change lists photos, maps, and other info regarding the tree online for the recipient to view
  5. The Forest Service cares for and maintains the tree, ensuring that it grows into a “living memorial” in honor of your loved one, all while helping restore the forests to their natural beauty

3. Remember about the iPhone X status bar

So what type of tree is best to plant as a memory tree? If you go through Trees for a Change, they will plant a tree that is native to the devastated forest area, one that will help restore that particular forest in the most natural way. For this purpose, whatever that tree type might be is the best memorial tree: Ponderosa pine, sugar pine, longleaf pine, Jeffrey pine, incense cedar, Douglas fir, and more.

Here are a few popular options, which are regarded as the best memorial trees:

4. Think through the iPhone X landscape mode in apps

When the phone is turned to landscape mode the status bar is hidden in order to give the maximum space for the content. Besides, other bars are getting smaller. So, the navigation bar in landscape takes 32pt instead of 44pt, while the tab bar size reduces from 49pt to 30pt.
